‘Helping People into Housing’

In 1997 the need to 'help people into housing' was seen and discussed by people in several churches in the Lewes District.

As a result, Lewes District Churches HOMELINK was set up to help people who are homeless, or threatened with homelessness, by organising a local interest-free rent deposit scheme.

Our loans can cover the first month's rent and damage deposit, and, in some circumstances, a contribution towards other expenses involved in securing the tenancy.

In 2017, HOMELINK made, on average, two loans a week. That added up to 103 new loans, or, in money terms, 172,400. HOMELINK receives some grants but is mainly dependent on subscriptions, donations and fundraising.
